BEHAVIORAL ENGINEERING

TAILOR EACH AND EVERY ASPECT OF THE TRAINING PROCESS AND CUSTOMIZE LESSONS ACCORDING TO YOUR DEPARTMENT'S NEEDS

  • Unlock Potential and Optimize Performance

It is crucial for every law enforcement agency to supply its officers with the necessary resources to sustain their physical and mental well-being. Due to the stressful demands of the job, and the high-level responsibilities that the position of a police officer holds, taking a proactive approach to secure officers' mental and emotional stability equips them with behavioral tools that allow them to function and handle the dynamic demands of 21st century policing.

  • Use Stress for Self-Development

Stress is often defined as having two components: the psychological perception of pressure, and the physical manifestation of physiological mechanisms and biological systems. There are many scientific and social studies that identify stress and emotional instability as having devastating impacts on individual police officers, their supervisors, the department, and society.

  • Use Behavioral Engineering to Increase Motivation

Behavioral engineering is the practical and precise application of scientific knowledge for the development, improvement, maintenance, and modification of human behavior. The complexities of brain functions, thought processes, and behavioral adaptations call for innovative behavioral training concepts that are predicated on the need for mitigating risky behaviors and improving human performance.

The key to high-level performance and emotional strength lies in the relationship between one’s internal cognition and external expression.

We help to make this relationship a top priority.

Our mission is to improve and enhance the performance, mental capacity, and the emotional and mental health of law enforcement officers and public safety employees through the use of neuroscience, psychology, and metacognitive science.
We strive to improve the quality of policing, strengthen the relationship between police and the public, and subsequently promote trust that leads to the mitigation of crime.

COGNITIVE POLICING

A NEW APPROACH TO LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING

  • Our training is a combination of cognition and situational awareness. We believe that the application of metacognition to the trained thought processes of law enforcement officers allows for greater awareness of the self and therefore greater awareness of the environment.

  • We use behavioral psychology to teach first responders how to develop a relationship between one’s internal cognition and external expression, as the two as irrevocably linked.

  • How an individual acts must first be determined by their thought processes; henceforth an analysis of an individual's behavior can provide insight into that individual’s thoughts and emotions.

WHY SHOULD WE BE CONCERNED WITH HUMAN BIOLOGY WHEN TRAINING LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS?

We are biopsychosocial systems, in which biological, psychological, and social-cultural factors interact to influence behavior. It is the brain that enables our humanity: our thinking, feeling, and acting. As we go about our days, tens of billions of neurons communicate with thousands of other neurons that form the way by which we conduct ourselves in different environments. By understanding cognitive science and neurological functions, we are able to engineer our behaviors, increase resilience, and accelerate our ability to coexist within society, perform appropriately in stressful environments, interact with other people without unnecessary conflicts, and thrive psychologically.

COGNITIVE CAPACITY: AN APPROACH FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT

Human cognition is an omnipresent factor in any profession involving human interaction, but it is often not applied to its proper extent in law enforcement. When the principles of cognition are used, they are typically in regard to officer-to-civilian or officer-to-perpetrator interactions. This then overlooks the equally if not more so important factor of officer-to-self interactions. The application of metacognition to the trained thought processes of law enforcement officers will allow for greater awareness of the self and therefore greater awareness of the environment, as an officer is ultimately part of the environment they find themselves in.

SENSORIMOTOR CONTROL IN THE PREVENTION OF UNLAWFUL POLICE SHOOTINGS

HUMAN BEHAVIOR IS TRIGGERED BY NEURAL PROCESSES THAT USE VISUAL INFORMATION TO GUIDE MOTOR BEHAVIORS

DE-ESCALATION TRAINING

Learn how to use the behavioral scale to assess a patient’s level of agitation, detect its early stages, and maintain cooperation.

Learn how to mitigate the risk of impulsive, hostile, and uncontrollable behaviors, and avoid coercive interventions that escalate agitation.

Learn how to help manage people’s emotions and regain control of their behaviors.

Neuropsychological dissociations between "vision-for-perception" and "vision-for-action" often leads to unconscious motor behaviors, which can contribute to unlawful and controversial police encounters.

DE-ESCALATION IS A PRIMARY INTERVENTION TECHNIQUE DESIGNED TO HANDLE AGITATED PEOPLE AND REDUCE THE LIKELIHOOD OF THEIR AGGRESSION OR VIOLENCE

  • “CHALLENGING” BEHAVIORS AND BEHAVIORAL ANALYSIS

  • TYPES OF CHALLENGING BEHAVIORS AND UNDERSTANDING BEHAVIORAL SYMPTOMS AND CAUSES

  • VERBAL/NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION AND CHOOSING APPROPRIATE ACTION

  • DE-ESCALATION TECHNIQUES AND MANAGING CHALLENGING BEHAVIORS

  • IMPLEMENTING SAFETY PROTOCOLS AND ADOPTING PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION TECHNIQUES

  • ASSESSING AND REDUCING RISKS
